Letter to Congregation:
It is great to be in Sneads Ferry and I look forward to sharing with you in worship and getting to know all of you. As I meet each of you we celebrate the possibilities of new friendships as well as our partnership in living out the mission of the church even as we discover what that mission might be. We look forward to discovering the loving spirit of Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church.
I will be keeping some hours at the church from 9:00-12:00 Monday-Thursdays. Otherwise I will be visiting, preparing sermons, and the other duties of ministry. Don't hesitate to call the church office (910-327-0166) if you need me or just drop by the office and say hello.
Blessings, Bill Young
Statement of Faith:
God in majesty and glory is creator of the universe. God has not only given us all things we see and possess but has also made things that we can not see. God gave humanity intelligence so that there might be love for God and that the name of God might be glorified. Since God's creation of humanity, God has been faithful and just to humanity who continually have sinned and turned away.
God showed great love for us by sending God's only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save us from corruption and sin. It is through our Lord Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross that salvation is possible. It is by His life and example that we are to live our lives.
We are given guidance for this living through the comforter and counselor, the Holy Spirit. It is through the Holy Spirit that God speaks to us and gives us all gifts to help further the kingdom and Christ's Church.
I believe that God has given us the Word through the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. The scripture bears witness to God and God's revelation to us in Jesus Christ. It is through the scriptures that we can learn about the faith and the history of salvation in which God has walked with humankind. We are all sinners and in need of God's gift of salvation.
The church is the community of Christ's followers in which we live out, strengthen, and celebrate the love and acceptance that is ours in Christ. It is also the instrument used by God to reveal that love to others. I have found the church to be the best vehicle to bring healing and wholeness to people today.
The sacraments of the church, baptism and Lord's Supper, are signs and seals of God's presence and our redemption through Jesus Christ. The water of baptism symbolizes a washing and welcoming of Christians as an offering of our lives to God as Jesus offered His life. The bread and cup serve as a remembrance as well as a sign of Christ's real presence in the Church.
It is these beliefs that are a part of who I am as a child of God and are reflected in my whole life and ministry.
